Case of Problem Solving

The key to facilitating transportation between three countries is building a system that allows the sharing of in-depth information.

Industry Manufacturing
Type of cargo Machinery
Purpose In-depth information sharing during transportation between three countries
Transportation area Asia

Manufacturers with plants worldwide very often transport products manufactured overseas to users in other countries. It can be difficult for the head office in Japan to control information so we were asked if it would be possible to confirm the smooth progress.

Problem
  • Transportation of products manufactured overseas direct to third countries
  • Information sharing on progress of transportation with third country users is difficult.
Proposed solution
  • Controlled maritime transportation arrangements from the country of origin (manufacture) in Japan using our company’s local agents.
  • Built a system for daily reports on transportation to solve the problem.
Results and effects
  • We confirmed the progress of exports and ship movements appropriately in cooperation with local partners.
  • Import customs clearance and installation arrangements in the third country became smooth.
It is difficult to grasp the situation because transportation arrangements from overseas factories to third countries are left to local subsidiaries.
Problem

It is difficult to grasp the situation because transportation arrangements from overseas factories to third countries are left to local subsidiaries.

The customer is a Japanese manufacturer making products at overseas factories. Its overseas factories transport products direct to third countries.

However, it was difficult in Japan to grasp the state of transportation in real time as responses to inquiries were slow as transportation arrangements and work, and the selection of transportation companies were left to the factories.

As a result, it was difficult to share information on the progress of transportation with third country users, and we were asked if we could do something for it.

Made our company the main transportation contractor to control all transportation from overseas factories to third countries.
Proposed solution

Made our company the main transportation contractor to control all transportation from overseas factories to third countries.

“Information sharing on transportation based on delivery schedules to third countries.” With realizing this our top priority, we judged we could solve the problem with a forwarder like our company mediating.

First, our company becomes the head (main contractor). We control maritime transportation arrangements from the country of origin (manufacture) in Japan using our company’s local agents.

We proposed that we would solve the problem by enabling daily reports on ship decisions, confirmation of progress in the country of origin and confirmation of the state of transportation to the port of arrival in the third country.

We smoothed information sharing on the progress of transportation between the customer and third country users.
Results and effects

We smoothed information sharing on the progress of transportation between the customer and third country users.

At the customer’s request we started the proposed method of transportation.

Cooperating closely with local partners, export progress from factories to third countries and ship movements are carried out and reported to the customer appropriately. This facilitated information sharing on export progress between the customer and third country users as well.

Further, import customs clearance and installation work in third countries can now be carried out smoothly. Our smooth handling of this overseas transport project was evaluated highly and confidence in us improved too.
