Inventories of various products continued to increase at the customer’s domestic factory, making it difficult to secure storage space. However, more containers were scheduled to arrive. In these circumstances, they asked if we had any good solutions.

Problem
  • It was difficult to secure storage space due to large inventories of various products.
  • They wanted to devan their imported containers at the factory.
Proposed solution
  • We compared the costs of storage at container yards and at Nishihama Van Pool.
  • Containers can be taken out matched to the desired delivery date.
Results and effects
  • Container-by-container delivery based on the situation at the customer’s factory.
  • We made a comprehensive proposal using various facilities.
There was no prospect of the company being able to use its own factory’s storage space.
Problem

There was no prospect of the company being able to use its own factory’s storage space.

Inventories of various products continued to increase at the customer’s domestic factory, making it difficult to secure storage space. Even so, and with more containers scheduled to arrive at Port of Nagoya soon, they could not change the devanning work at their factory.

But there was no prospect of being able to use its factory’s storage space. If the containers were kept in a container yard, demurrage costs would have been big. They asked us if there was a good solution.

We proposed the cost benefits of using the Nishihama Van Pool.
Proposed solution

We proposed the cost benefits of using the Nishihama Van Pool.

We proposed container storage at Nishihama Van Pool which is our company owned facility with a van pool function.

The customer want to do the devanning work at their own factory. We compared container storage costs at a container yard and at Nishihama Van Pool, and presented and explained the conditions for cost benefits to appear.

We also said there are basically no limits on temporary storage periods at Nishihama van pool, and that they could take their containers out to match the desired delivery date.

Costs could be reduced greatly as unit costs can be kept lower than demurrage.
Results and effects

Costs could be reduced greatly as unit costs can be kept lower than demurrage.

As a result of choosing storage at Nishihama Van Pool, we were able to reduce costs greatly by keeping the unit cost lower than the shipping company’s demurrage fees.

We also reduced costs by implementing container-by-container delivery based on the situation at the customer’s factory. We were also able to demonstrate our ability to make proposals using our various facilities.

We were also able to tell them about the additional benefits of using the service, such as our ability to handle dangerous goods at Nishihama Van Pool.
